Volodymyr Mohylnyi, head of the central district administration of the Mariupol City Council, says that the Russian forces are trying to provide some of the residents with electric heating devices, but they are asking them not to use them, because the power grid will fail

He said this on Espreso TV.

“The main thing that the residents of Mariupol do not have is the life that people deserve in the 21st century. The occupiers barely provided water, and electricity in some parts of the city, but there will be no heating in winter. People who survived March 2022 in cellars and near fires are waiting for the winter cold with great fear. The invaders are trying to provide a part of Mariupol residents with electric heating devices, but the entire city's electricity supply system is in a terrible state, so they warn the citizens not to use electric heaters because the power grid will not withstand it,” the head of the district council said.

Volodymyr Mohylnyi noted that when the temperature in the city dropped to 10 degrees Celsius, fires broke out in some houses where people were using electric heaters. About 5-10 people died in Mariupol in fires caused by electrical appliances, he said, adding that the frost is yet to come.

“The climate in the city is severe, because the sea is nearby, the humidity is high, so it is difficult to endure the winter. According to our calculations, 130,000-150,000 residents are now left in Mariupol, but with the cold and frost, some people began to move to villages where there is stove heating in order to survive this winter,” Mohylnyi noted.

  • On October 31, the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriushchenko, reported that the Russian forces were distributing heaters in Mariupol, where there is no electricity.

  • On November 3, the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriushchenko, said that a global sweep was taking place in the city, and the Russian forces suddenly increased the 'filtering' of civilians.
