There could be nuclear weapons in Belarus - Belarusian opposition activist
Pavlo Latushko, Belarusian émigré opposition leader and head of the National Anti-Crisis Department, believes that Belarus has lost its status as a neutral state due to the constitutional changes that Lukashenko pushed through on February 27 this year. Russia has opened the door to deploying nuclear warheads on Belarusian territory.
He expressed this opinion on the air of Espreso.
Pavlo Latushko commented on Radyslaw Sikorski’s, a member of the European Parliament and a Polish politician, statement that Ukraine now has the right to receive nuclear warheads due to Russia's repeated violations of the Budapest Memorandum. Accordingly, the Russian Foreign Ministry reacted and State Duma Chairman Volodin said that if anything happens, nuclear warheads may fly to Poland.
"These are not the first threats against Poland for its active position in supporting Ukraine and providing assistance to Ukrainian refugees. I understand why Mr. Sikorski made such a statement. From the international law’s point of view, he is absolutely right. Russia has pledged guarantees in this agreement on territorial integrity, sovereignty and security for Ukraine, and it is Russia that has violated this. Accordingly, now it would only be logical to return the agreement to its original state, which means returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine. But if we realistically assess the situation, it is unlikely that the return of nuclear weapons to Ukraine is possible, but rather absolutely impossible," - said the Belarusian oppositioner.
Pavlo Latushko added that it was even less likely for any NATO state to agree to transport nuclear warheads to Ukraine.
"The situation may turn in another direction. Given the changes to the constitution, which Lukashenko once again falsified on February 27 this year, Belarus has lost its status of a neutral state. Russia has opened the way to deploy nuclear warheads in Belarus. Looking at the psychotype of the two dictators, I would not rule out such a situation, but rather I would consider it real that in the near future there may be nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus" - said the oppositioner.
Latushka stressed that Europe does not consider such critical options and is not aware of what the prolongation of the war or failure to provide appropriate assistance to Ukraine to achieve victory in this war could lead to. This situation is accumulating and will grow into a bigger and global problem, being not only a regional but a global problem.
