The risk of Russian invasion in 2023 is high - Moldova's Information and Security Service
Alexandru Musteață, head of Moldova's Information and Security Service, believes that the risk of Russia's invasion of Moldovan territory may materialize in 2023, but this will depend on the war in Ukraine
This was reported by TVR Moldova.
“The question is not whether the Russian Federation will launch a new offensive on the territory of Moldova, but when it will happen: whether at the beginning of the year, in January, February, or later, in March, April,” the head of Moldova's Information and Security Service said.
“But judging by the information we have, Russia can go further to create a corridor with the Transnistrian region, which is the territory of Moldova. Then it will be possible to say with clarity that yes, they intend to reach there. We can discuss their intentions regarding Chisinau, but this is a real and very high risk,” he added.
In particular, Musteață reminded that the Transnistrian region is home to the largest munitions depot in Europe, which is guarded by the Russians, and a hypothetical invasion by the Russian Federation into Moldova may be related to the use of these munitions in a possible military confrontation.
