Russians storm Azovstal, Mariupol defenders urge Zelensky to act
On May 3, Russian forces launched an attack on the Azovstal plant held by the Ukrainian military, where civilians and children are hiding from the shelling.
The Azov Regiment Deputy Commander Svyatoslav Palamar ("Kalyna") announced this, reports Ukrainian Truth.
"We were bombed all night, two civilian women were killed, and now Azovstal is being stormed," said Palamar.
The attack was preceded by an air strike, after which Russians tried to break into the factory.
Mariupol defenders sent a request to Volodymyr Zelensky to take action on the Russian offensive.
"We know that the President is informed of the situation in Mariupol, and has its finger on the pulse. We expect decisive action from him, because the situation is very difficult," said the head of the military government.
The journalist Tsaplienko posted on Telegram on a large-scale fire in the plant due to the Russian bombings.
"Before the storming, Russian aircraft bombed Azovstal for several hours. There was a major fire, a column of smoke could be seen all across Mariupol," Tsaplienko wrote.
