10 Ukrainians released from captivity arrive in Kyiv, including Deputy Chairman of Mejlis Nariman Dzhelial
On June 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the return of 10 Ukrainians from Russian captivity. Among them is Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Nariman Dzhelial
He made the announcement on Telegram.
"We managed to return ten more of our people from Russian captivity. Despite all the difficulties," the president wrote.
According to him, the released people include Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelial, who was captured in Crimea in 2021, Olena Pekh and Valeriy Matiushenko, civilians who have been in captivity since 2017-2018.
Two priests of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Bohdan Heleta and Ivan Levytskyi, who were captured in Berdiansk for resisting the occupiers, were also released.
"Five more civilians who were captured on the territory of Belarus and deprived of their liberty: Mykola Shvets, Natalia Zakharenko, Pavlo Kuprienko, Liudmyla Honcharenko and Kateryna Briukhanova. All of them have already been released and are at home in Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
According to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the release of the Ukrainians took place as part of the 53rd exchange, which brought 100 Ukrainian citizens back home. In total, 3,310 Ukrainians have already been released from Russian captivity.
"The release of civilian Ukrainians took place with the mediation of the Holy See," the Coordination Center added.
Already on Saturday, June 29, Zelenskyy and the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said that the Ukrainians released from Russian captivity were already in Kyiv.
The State Security Service also showed an exclusive video of the prisoner exchange.
