Russia experiences record number of explosions over past 10 years
At least 83 explosions occurred in the Russian Federation in 2022, killing 55 people. 10,647 were injured or affected by these incidents
This was reported by Meduza with reference to Verstka.
According to Verstka, 83 explosions occurred in Russia in 2022. The media outlet studied data from Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry and concluded that this is a record number of explosions over the past 10 years. Over the year, 55 people died in such incidents, and another 10,647 people were injured or affected.
The Ministry's statistics for 2022 include explosions of residential buildings, warehouses, mines, and the explosion on the Crimean Bridge. In addition, the agency takes into account explosions caused by fires, Konstantin Kuznetsov, an expert at the Fire Safety Fund, told Verstka.
"But the most common cause of explosions is an explosive object, i.e. a bomb, rocket, mine, grenade," states Verstka. Explosions caused by this accounted for 55 out of 83 cases a year," the publication said.
The publication believes that the increase in the number of explosions in 2022 is directly related to the war.
