People in the West don't understand that the China-Taiwan situation is different from Russia's war on Ukraine - Klimkin
Pavlo Klimkin, Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister from 2014 to 2019, says that people in the West don't understand that Russia's war against Ukraine is fundamentally different in origin and essence from the current situation between China and Taiwan
The diplomat shared the details in the Verdict with Serhii Rudenko program on Espreso TV.
"Not everyone in the West understands that when we talk about Taiwan, it is a completely different reality compared to Russia's war against Ukraine. We cannot fully understand all the intricacies of relations between China and Taiwan. Although we can say that the Taiwanese also consider themselves Chinese. But we - Ukrainians - definitely understand the mentality of the Russian imperial regime, which does not see its existence without the restoration of some hybrid of the USSR", Klimkin noted.
The diplomat emphasized that Russia is the heir of Byzantium and the Horde.
"I very much welcome Volodymyr Zelenskyy's words that we are the heirs of Kievan Rus. This is correct, because Russia, in its mentality, is the heir of Byzantium and the Horde. The entire history of Russia is a manifestation of the Postordinian mentality", Pavlo Klimkin noted.
