Pelosi Taiwan trip in support of democracy and freedom - US academic
Igor Eisenberg, a professor at New York University, has called Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan very appropriate, because it demonstrates to China and Russia the US’s resolve against those who encroach on the freedom and sovereignty of other countries.
He expressed his opinion with Espreso.
"I am proud of Nancy Pelosi for flying to Taiwan. By the way, Taiwan is a developed and flourishing country with wonderful people. It is also a democratic country in the world that the authoritarian communist China is trying to destroy. And so this is a very important visit, especially now that China is led by Xi Jinping, who constantly threatens Taiwan. This visit demonstrates that the US supports democracy, freedom and against authoritarianism," the professor noted.
Igor Eisenberg added that there were many voices in the US in support of Nancy Pelosi's visit. Also, Secretary of State Blinken said that Pelosi herself decides and it is her business, because she is the legislative branch of government and is independent from the executive branch.
"I think she did the right thing, because the United States is showing both China and Russia that they will support democracy and freedom, and will oppose those who encroach on the freedom and sovereignty of other countries," Eisenberg said.
