Only Ukraine will fight for us if needed - Moldova's former defense minister

Anatole Shalaru, former Minister of Defense of Moldova, stated this on Espreso.

"The only country and partner that can help us quickly resolve the issue with Transnistria now is Ukraine. It is the only country that, if necessary, will fight for Moldova against Russia, the Russian army in Transnistria. Ukraine is the only country that is now interested in solving this issue, because this "Moldovan Kaliningrad" is like a knife in the back of Moldova and Ukraine," he said.

In his opinion, there is no need to exaggerate the significance of the Russian contingent in Transnistria.

"There are less than 2,000 troops there, of which only 30% are Russian. This limited group of Russian troops is stationed there illegally. Unfortunately, our government listened to the opinion of Europe. Germany was the only country that supported the federalization of Moldova. Merkel and Putin had a separate agreement regarding Transnistria and Moldova. They wanted to support this regime there with the help of the Russian Federation," Shalaru concluded.
