Occupying Russian forces in Mariupol are robbing elderly citizens - Mayor’s adviser Andryushchenko
Occupying Russian forces in the city are robbing people of retirement age who managed to receive their first payments from the occupation “government”
Mariupol’s Mayor adviser Petro Andryushchenko shared the information.
"Armed people take away everything they get. It's hard to say unequivocally who it is. But the Donetsk police closes their eyes and pretends that nothing happened," Andryushchenko said.
He also notes that this is probably part of a scenario under which the Russians seek to maintain control over people in the city by using criminal groups whose leaders are in turn controlled by the Russian government, including the forces loyal to Chechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov, who are currently residing in Novoazovsk.
Andryushchenko also says that looters have started to appear openly on the streets of Mariupol, offering locally looted jewellery for sale. It is reported that the main buyers are employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as Donetsk separatists.
"There are also improvised pawn shops here, where Mariupol residents donate jewellery for nothing. Mr Ftiz, who heads the Zhovtnevy (Central) occupation District Administration, is ‘covering up’ for these illegal activities," said the Mayor's adviser.
