Occupiers storm Azovstal, the defenders of Mariupol ask Zelenskyy to take measures
On Tuesday, May 3, the Russian occupiers launched an assault on the Azovstal plant held by the Ukrainian military, where civilians and children are hiding from the shelling
The Deputy Commander of the Azov Battalion Svyatoslav Palamar ("Kalyna") told this, “Ukrainian Pravda” states.
“We were bombed all night, two civilian women were killed, and now Azovstal is being stormed,” Palamar said.
According to Palamar, the storming was preceded by an air strike, after which the occupiers began trying to break into the plant.
Also the defenders of Mariupol sent a request to Volodymyr Zelenskyy to take action because of the Russian offensive.
“We know the president is being informed about the situation in Mariupol and he is keeping his finger on the pulse. Therefore, we expect drastic actions from him, as the situation is very difficult,” the military appealed to the head of state.
Besides, journalist Andriy Tsaplienko reported on Telegram about a large-scale fire on the territory of the enterprise as a result of the Russian bombing.
“Before the storming, the occupiers’ aircraft bombed Azovstal for several hours in a row. There was a large-scale fire, a column of smoke could be seen in all areas of Mariupol,” Tsaplienko wrote.
Later, the Azov Battalion published on Telegram an urgent appeal from the deputy commander, Captain Svyatoslav Palamar, calling for immediate measures to evacuate civilians from Azovstal.
“Today, May 3, invaders’ naval and barrel artillery worked all night on the territory of the Azovstal plant, heavy aviation bombs were dropped. As a result of these criminal acts, two civilian women died. About 10 civilians got various injuries. At the moment, there is a powerful assault on the territory of the Azovstal plant with the support of armored vehicles and tanks, with attempts to land by boat and a large number of infantry. We will do everything possible to fight off this assault, but we call for immediate measures to evacuate civilians from the plant's territory and deliver them safely to Zaporizhzhia and the territory controlled by Ukraine,” Palamar said.
