No goal achieved: Ben Wallace describes 80,000 Russian soldiers killed and injured in Ukraine
On September 5, the UK's Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, provided an update to Members of Parliament as Ukrainian forces gain momentum in their offensive to liberate the southern region of Kherson from Russian occupation
This is reported by Express.
"Russia continues to lose a significant amount of equipment and personnel. According to estimates, more than 25,000 Russian soldiers have died as of today, and in total, if we take into account the killed, captured, and registered tens of thousands of deserters, this is more than 80,000 killed, wounded, and other categories," Ben Wallace said.
He predicts that such losses will have a long-term impact on the Russian military and its future combat capability.
Wallace pointed out that Russia hasn't achieved any of its strategic goals yet, and it's now the 194th day of "what was supposed to be a month-long campaign."
Speaking about the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counteroffensive in the south, Wallace said that Ukraine had caused serious damage to a number of river crossings in order to limit logistical support to Russia.
"The Ukrainian army is engaged with Russian forces, conducting both artillery and ground operations. They are making real gains, but it is clear, as we have seen elsewhere in this conflict, that the fighting is close and heavy, and Ukraine is suffering losses related to attacking forces," the head of the UK Defense Ministry said.
