Mysterious Ukrainian missile that can destroy Russian targets: what is known
National Security and Defense Secretary Oleksiy Danilov has published a video of the launch of a long-range missile made in Ukraine, hinting that such weapons could be used for strikes on Russian military targets
This is reported by Defense Express.
The location and time of the action are not given. There are no specifics on whether it was a test launch to evaluate the prototype's capabilities or a live missile launch against the invading Russian forces.
Even the fact that the launch and video capture occurred at night makes identifying this strange Ukrainian-made missile challenging. However, if we look closely at this film again, we can see some important facts.
To begin, we may deduce from this video that we are witnessing the launch of a solid-fuel subsonic cruise missile. And it may share at least one structural feature with the Neptune complex's R-360 anti-ship missile: the presence of a launch rocket that separates after the missile is fired.
"We can barely see in the frame that the launcher for this missile is somewhat similar to the launcher for the Neptune anti-ship missile, but at the same time it may have a slightly different chassis or be placed on a trailer, similar to the HCDS coastal missile system for the Harpoon Block II," the company writes.
The fact that this missile was fired at night may indicate that both a combined guidance system and an inertial guidance system were employed, so this question can be left open for the time being.
"In general, by tangential indications, it seems that this missile still fits the description of a modified Neptune for striking ground targets. However, one should be careful with initial impressions, as additional information may change the picture altogether," Defense Express writes.
