Moldovan Prime Minister Gavrilița expresses fears about Russia's possible invasion
The Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița has stated in an interview that her country has feared Russia will invade, after the Russian Federation launched a full-scale war in neighboring Ukraine
This is reported by Politico.
"Of course, we are worried. This is a risk, it is only a hypothetical scenario for now, but if military operations move further to the south-west of Ukraine and towards Odesa, then of course we will be very, very worried", the Prime Minister said on CNN.
At the same time, Gavrilița said that her country is not the only one that has reasons for concern because of the full-scale war launched by Russia in February.
"This is a very difficult situation not only for Moldova, but also for any small country, any country that relies on the rules-based international order. If a country can start a war of annexation while ignoring international law, then in that sense no one is not insured, and I think a lot of countries are concerned", she said.
It is noted that the war caused significant damage to the economy of Moldova. According to Gavrilița, Moldova is the most economically affected country after Ukraine from this war.
"We have already seen very high inflation. In June, it was 32%", she said.
However, she noted that the Moldovan people nobly survived the crisis, and despite the difficult situation, they still accepted a large number of Ukrainian refugees.
"We have seen, for example, in polls that even after the arrival of a very large number of refugees, 85% of Moldovans declare that they are ready to accept even more. At the same time, 50% of them are ready to accept Ukrainians under any conditions and for any term. The wisdom of my people cannot help but please", she said.
