Moldova to join EU's anti-Russian sanctions - parliament speaker
Moldovan parliament speaker Igor Grosu has said Moldova will support sanctions against Russia, which the EU plans to extend.
The online publication Newsmaker shared the statement.
Moldova intends to join European Union sanctions against Russia.
"We will stand in solidarity with the EU. This is required by our status and our European aspirations. The purpose of these sanctions is to stop the war so that diplomats can sit down at the negotiating table and find a solution," said Igor Grosu.
Asked what Russia's reaction would be to Moldova's decision, Grosu said the country was interested in maintaining normal relations with Russia, but asked that its decision to move to EU membership be respected.
"Yes, we want to maintain good relations with you. You have power. Also, several hundred thousand Moldovans live and work there. We think about them. We want to have trade relations with you. But we ask you to respect our decision to join the EU," added Grosu.
