Markarova explains why US forbids Ukraine from hitting Russian territory with American weapons
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, Oksana Markarova, said that Ukraine does not attack Russia with American weapons due to the relevant obligations to Washington
Markarova told about this in an interview with The Page.
"We need to follow the agreements about how we use certain American weapons, which we promised to use in a specific way. The United States, being a democratic country, listens to its citizens who don't want to get involved in war," stated Markarova.
She added that this is evident from the surveys conducted in the United States.
"We hear it from regular people, and we see it in the surveys. We observe support for the withdrawal of US armed forces from other countries where they were involved in military operations. This is the stance of the American public, who also strongly support us in our struggle and provide us with weapons and other assistance," mentioned Markarova.
Simultaneously, she emphasized that Ukraine has the right to retaliate against Russia according to Article 51 of the UN.
"The Russian aggressors are continuously attacking us from their own territories and from other places like Belarus, the Caspian Sea, and the Black Sea. To be accurate, the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN permits a country to protect itself from an attack and take necessary actions, not limited to our own territory," Markarova pointed out.
