Puryshev said that people are desperate for food and water as there is not enough humanitarian aid for everyone.

"And they're all just fighting there. On one of those trips, they almost flipped my van over, and it was just about survival", Puryshev recalls.

He said he was scared of not seeing his children again, but that he couldn’t stop thinking about the people who still need his help and the new trips he still needed to make.

"It hurts that this is happening in our country in the 21st century. This is happening in my city. This is pain. This is the pain of our country", he told CNN.

Puryshev also turned his nightclub into a bomb shelter.
