Liz Truss named new UK Prime Minister
In the UK, the results have been announced for the Conservative Party's election of their new leader, who will take over from Boris Johnson as Prime Minister
The winner of the post was announced by Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Tory Parliamentary Committee, at the Queen Elizabeth II Center in Westminster.
In her speech after the election results were announced, Liz Truss said she was honored to be elected leader of the Conservative Party of the UK. She thanked her friends and family for their support, as well as her opponent "for important and hard work during the election campaign" and the current Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
"Boris, you did everything right. You launched an anti-covid campaign, you firmly stood with Ukraine, and gave a strong rebuff to Putin," Truss said.
"I know that the people of Britain believe in freedom, the ability to control their lives, in low taxes, and special responsibility. As the head of your party, I promise to live up to your trust," Truss added.
She noted that she grew as a conservative during the election campaign, and added that as head of government she will fight for tax cuts, strengthening the country's economy, and improving the level of health services.

Elizabeth Truss was born in 1975 in Oxford. She studied at Oxford University, studied politics, economics, and philosophy. In 2010, she became a member of the House of Commons, two years later she received the position of Minister of Education.
In Theresa May's government, Truss headed the Ministry of Justice, and later became Chief Secretary to the Treasury. She has held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs since September 2021.
Her opponent Rishi Sunak was born in Southampton, in a family of Indian origin. He studied at Oxford and Stanford University. In Theresa May's government, Rishi Sunak served as Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government.
During the prime ministership of Boris Johnson, Sunak became the Chief Secretary of the Treasury, and in February 2020 - the Chancellor of the Treasury. He is on the list of the richest Britons, and his wife is the daughter of Indian billionaire Narayan Murthy.
