International law allows Ukraine to use Western weapons on Russian territory — German Defense Minister
International law allows Ukraine to use Western weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation as self-defense
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this in an interview with DW on June 5.
When asked about the concerns surrounding the use of German weapons on Russian territory, the official noted that international law permits such usage for self-defense purposes.
He mentioned that both Berlin and Washington have consistently emphasized their reluctance to deploy their weapons across the Russian border. However, he expressed trust in Ukraine as a reliable partner, stating that he has no evidence to suggest otherwise.
Pistorius emphasized that halting arms supplies to Ukraine would effectively mean ending Ukraine's existence the next day. He highlighted that Ukraine is a sovereign nation and should have the autonomy to decide when negotiations or other actions are necessary, independent of external influence.
It is worth noting that on April 21, Pistorius stated that the Ukrainian military's incursion into Russian territory is a normal occurrence during a full-scale war initiated by the Russian Federation.
