In June alone Ukraine produces more shells than in 2022
In June 2023, Ukraine produced more mortar and artillery shells than in the whole of 2022
Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine, stated this in an interview with Bloomberg.
"How many more is a secret. I wouldn’t say that we were that great for managing to increase ammunition production in three months. We produced so little in 2022," the minister said.
It is noted that the supply of weapons to Ukraine from the US and its allies was the main direction in the war, but Kyiv is in a hurry to increase its own production in order not to depend on charity. Over time, Kamyshin aims to once again make Ukraine a major arms exporter.
"We have to be ambitious, because we have no choice. My aim is to make Ukraine the arsenal of the free world," he said.
According to the publication, the domestic production of ammunition is currently increasing, albeit from a low base. However, Ukrainian anti-tank complexes Stuhna-P began to roll off the conveyors faster. Increasing the production of tanks and armored vehicles is the next priority, but according to Kamyshin, it will take 3-6 months.
