One of the organizers of a holiday for Ukrainian children, which was supposed to take place in Gomel, Belarus, has been sentenced to 7 days in prison.
Radio Liberty reports.
On Monday, June 27, a holiday was to be held in Gomel for Ukrainian children who came to Belarus fleeing the war. The idea came from a girl named Alisa from Donetsk, who turned 9 on June 27. She wanted to sell paper "doves of peace" and in this way collect money for a gift. Instead, local volunteers decided to organize a vacation for Ukrainian children who are forced to live in Gomel. The holiday was called "Name Day", the program included games, contests, souvenirs and gifts. A mandatory condition was to take a "dove of peace" with you or to make it together during the meeting.
However, the police dispersed the participants of the event, who gathered in the palace`s of the Rumyantsevs and Paskeviches park.
In the pro-government Telegram channels it was said that the police intervened in the celebration because they were afraid of "provocations and political slogans", and its participants did not submit an application to the city executive committee for a mass event.
On June 29, one of the organizers of the holiday, Alla Karolenko, was detained. Today, on June 30, it became known that she was sentenced to 7 days of arrest. It is unknown under which article the volunteer was charged.
