Germany pledges Taiwan support in case of Chinese attack
Germany‘s Federal Foreign Minister, Annalena Berbock, has warned China against escalating tensions with Taiwan, saying Germany would not accept an attack on the country.
Der Spiegel writes about it.
"We do not accept a situation where a larger neighbor attacks its smaller neighbor in violation of international law - and this, of course, also applies to China," Burbok said at a UN conference in New York.
She noted that in view of Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine, it is important to send a signal that the international community does not accept such behavior. Therefore, Burbok is working to reduce the risk of nuclear escalation as much as possible.
"Since the end of February, Russia has repeatedly demonstrated ruthless nuclear rhetoric that calls into question everything that has been achieved by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons over five decades," Burbok noted.
She believes that since Moscow is grossly violating the rules-based order, it is now even more important to adhere to agreed norms and principles, as well as to condemn violations.
"It's time to be strong," added the representative of Germany.
