German MP Wadephul calls for allowing Ukraine to strike at Russia
Deputy chairman of the opposition CDU/CSU faction in the Bundestag, Johann Wadephul, called for allowing Ukraine to use German weapons against targets in Russia
This was reported by DW.
"There is no justification at either the international legal or political level why Ukraine should not be allowed to attack targets in Russia," Wadephul said.
It is noted that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently said that an agreement had been reached with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that German weapons should not be used to strike Russian territory. Wadephul disagrees.
"Why should a country under attack be limited to defending itself only on its own territory? Ukraine should be able to disrupt logistics and supplies on the other side of the border as well, to be able to stop an aggressive war. Germany should effectively help Ukraine instead of tying its hands," the politician emphasised.
In addition, Wadephul noted that Ukraine should certainly keep in mind "proportionality," but emphasised that Kyiv already adheres to it.
"Unlike Russia, Ukraine limits itself to strikes on industrial facilities, fuel depots, and transportation and military infrastructure. Unlike Russia, it does not bomb residential complexes, hospitals or orphanages," the politician explained.
