Filtration camps for Mariupol residents: Russians torture forcibly deported men, hold them in inhumane conditions and prepare for "parade" as prisoners of war
In the Mariupol filtration camps, Russians torture men, take away their documents, prepare for a "parade" and keep them in inhumane conditions; one person died, some detainees have tuberculosis.
Mariupol Mayor Adviser Petro Andryushchenko shared shocking news in his Telegram channel.
"The filtration camps in Bezymyane village have been turned into a real ghetto for Mariupol residents. The whole world must know this terrible story. We received all the details and a video confirmation from the inside. Without exaggeration, this is a new page in Russia's military crimes," he noted.
Four weeks ago, Russians forcibly removed all the men from the Guglino, Myrny and Volonterivka districts of Mariupol. About 2,000 citizens were placed in Bezymyane and Kozatske villages (Donetsk region - Ed.), allegedly for filtration. Russians didn't allow the men to take their personal belongings and took away their documents.
"Men were placed in school and club premises. In the video we can see a school in Bezymyane. For the fourth week the men are forcibly kept in the school. They can't leave the territory without a Russian military convoy. Conditions of detention are terrible - people are forced to sleep on the floor in the corridors. Russians don't provide medical assistance. The first case of tuberculosis was already recorded so the school gym was turned into an isolation ward where people were locked up without medical care. The first case of death due to Russians' refusal to call an ambulance was recorded in Kozatske village," Petro Andryushchenko stressed.
If some detainees are outside the school in the morning and at 9 pm, Russians threaten them with torture and execution. They feed the men three times a day with bad food. Mariupol residents wash only in one sink with cold water for thousands of people. The lack of hygiene increases the sickness rate among men.
"People don't get their documents back, instead, everyone receives a filtration paper, but it also doesn't give them the right to leave the camp territory. There were separate attempts to leave, but men were detained and beaten. The last unsuccessful attempt was to break through to the UN and Red Cross evacuation buses, which they had seen from the windows. All detainees, including patients and people with disabilities are involved in public works in Bezymyane village and Novoazovsk city under the Russian military escort. As for their further fate, Russians haven't yet decided - to use them as a labor force in cleaning the rubble in Mariupol or to mobilize them to the Russian army. On May 2, the men were announced to participate in a parade on May 9 in Mariupol as "prisoners". Russians will dress them in the Ukrainian soldiers' uniform," the Mayor Advisor said.
In the absence of men in Mariupol, the Russian military are robbing houses even with residents inside. Women don't go outside for fear of rape.
"All this once again shows the realities of the occupation. Mariupol's transformation into a real ghetto, which is again silent. Therefore, we call on everyone to share information, including the media. All videos are authentic without correction and editing. The owners have given the rights to use them. Share. We have to save Mariupol from destruction. Together," emphasized Petro Andryushchenko.
