Russian shelling of residential building in Kyiv on October 17: number of people killed increases to 5
On the morning of October 17, several explosions rang out in Kyiv, a residential building was hit, and 19 people were rescued. On the morning of October 18, the body of the fifth deceased resident was found from under the rubble of the building.

"From under the rubble of a house in the center of the capital, which was hit by a Russian kamikaze drone yesterday morning, the body of another dead resident - an elderly woman - was found. This is already the fifth victim of Russia's barbaric attack on the capital on October 17," Klitschko wrote.
Search and rescue operations in the house are ongoing, and rescuers and other services are on site. They dismantle rubble and remove construction debris.
As of 3:50 p.m. on October 17, it was known that four people died under the rubble of a building in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv.
"Already 4 people have died under the rubble of a house in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital, which was hit by a Russian terrorist drone. Rescuers found another body - a dead man. Search and rescue operations are ongoing. There may still be people under the rubble. Three victims were hospitalized. Two of them are employees of Ukraine's State Emergency Service," Vitalii Klitschko wrote.
Under the procedural leadership of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, due to the shelling of the capital's infrastructure, criminal proceedings were initiated on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
At 12:44 the deputy head of the OP Kyrylo Tymoshenko reported about three people dead after the drone attacked the residential building in Kyiv.
At 12:25 Tymoshenko wrote about two victims.
“Kyiv. As of now, 19 people are rescued, 4 are wounded, and 2 are dead. Rescue operation ongoing", Tymoshenko informed.
At 11:32 Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported about one dead woman.
"The body of a dead woman was recovered from the rubble of a house in the Shevchenkivskyi district, where an explosion occurred as a result of a drone attack. One more person is under the rubble. Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Three victims have been hospitalized," the mayor wrote.
The deputy head of the OP Kyrylo Tymoshenko published a photo of the rescued elderly woman.
"Ms. Anna is saved! They got out of the third floor of the damaged building!" Tymoshenko wrote.
At 10:06 a.m. on his Telegram channel, the mayor of the capital, Vitaliy Klitschko, reported that an explosion occurred in a residential building in the Shevchenkivsky district of the capital as a result of an attack by kamikaze drones.
"At the moment, 18 people have been rescued from it. According to preliminary information, two residents remain under the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing. The extinguishing of the destroyed construction structures and the demolition of the rubble are ongoing. Whether there are casualties - we are clarifying the information," Klitschko wrote.

"The enemy continues to attack. A residential building in the Shevchenkivsky district has been hit. Currently, the information about the victims is being clarified," the Kyiv City Military Administration reported on Telegram.
"Kyiv Oblast! Air defense forces are operating in the region. Stay in shelters until the alarm ends," Oleksiy Kuleba, head of the Kyiv Oblast, wrote on Telegram about the situation in Kyiv Oblast.
"As a result of a drone attack in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, a fire broke out in a non-residential building. Fire departments are working. Several residential buildings were damaged. Medics are on the scene. We are clarifying information about the victims," Klitschko previously reported.
Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President's Office, also commented on the situation.
"Explosions in Kyiv. The capital was attacked by kamikaze drones. The Russians think it will help them, but such actions are like agony. We need more air defense systems and as soon as possible. We do not have time for slow actions. More weapons to protect the sky and destroy the enemy. So it will be," he posted on Telegram.
