EU calls mass Russian attacks on Ukraine "barbaric and coward"
European Union condemns Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities on October 10 and 11. EU also emphasizes that Russian leadership, Lukashenko regime and all those responsible and involved in any war crimes will be brought to justice
It is the statement of the European Union made during a special meeting of the Permanent Council of the OSCE on October 11 in Vienna, Ukrinform reports.
EU notes that Russia's attacks are aimed at causing maximum harm to the civilian population.
"Indiscriminate attacks on civilians or civilian objects, as well as deliberate attacks on the civilian population as such or on individual civilians who are not participating in hostilities, are prohibited by international humanitarian law and constitute war crimes" - the statement says.
Russian leadership and its accomplice - Lukashenko regime in Belarus - as well as all those responsible and involved in any war crimes, "will be brought to justice".
"We will make every effort to ensure that justice prevails" - the EU said.
European Union also condemned the attacks on Ukrainian cities and called them "barbaric and coward".
European Union is concerned about "Russia's actions at and around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, as well as at other nuclear facilities and sites in Ukraine", noting that Russia "significantly increases the risk of a nuclear accident."
EU considers accusations of Belarusian regime against Ukraine absolutely unacceptable and groundless and called on Minsk "to refrain from any further participation in Russia's cruel, heartless and illegal war of aggression against Ukraine and, in particular, to immediately stop using the territory of Belarus as a springboard for attacks on Ukraine and Ukrainian civilian population".
"We remain steadfast in its support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and demand Russia immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its troops and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including the illegally annexed Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol" - the statement says.
On October 10-11, Russian occupying forces launched a massive attack on the cities and villages of Ukraine. Among the victims are Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Zhytomyr.
