China won't benefit from supplying weapons to Russia – analyst
China will not benefit from supplying weapons to the Russian Federation, as there will be serious economic sanctions in the technology sector and trade
Alina Hrytsenko, chief consultant of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, said this on Espreso TV.
“We cannot rule out the possibility of China supplying weapons to Russia. However, in my opinion, this scenario is very unlikely. It is one thing when China supports Russia ideologically. This is not out of a great desire or friendship, but because China sees the Russian-Ukrainian war in the context of confrontation with the West,” she said.
According to Hrytsenko, it's a different story when it comes to logistical support and direct involvement in the conflict.
“And China will not benefit from supplying weapons to the Russians. There will be serious economic sanctions in the technology sector and in trade, including higher tariffs on imports. China will not get any bonuses from this. For this reason, I believe that the supply of lethal weapons is not a plausible scenario for the future,” the expert concluded.
