China, Russia conduct joint naval operation near Alaska
Russia and China have conducted a joint naval operation near Alaska, after which the US Navy despatched four destroyers to the area
This is reported by Fox News.
For the naval operation, China and Russia used 11 ships that approached the southwestern coast of Alaska. US Senator Dan Sullivan noted that the US Navy eventually sent four destroyers and a P-8 Poseidon aircraft to divert Chinese and Russian ships from US waters.
Russian and Chinese ships approached the Aleutian Islands. They did not enter US territorial waters.
Sullivan said that this is unprecedented in terms of the size and scope of this joint naval operation between China and Russia. He noted that this is a cause for concern.
"It just solidifies this idea that we've entered a new era of authoritarian aggression led by the dictators in Beijing and Moscow who are increasingly aggressive," he said.
Brent Sadler, a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, called the move by China and Russia provocative.
"It is a historical first. Given the context of the war in Ukraine and tensions around Taiwan, this move is highly provocative," he said.

On July 29, Japan's Defense Ministry announced that five Chinese and five Russian warships had sailed through the Soi Strait between Hokkaido and Sakhalin into the Sea of Okhotsk, likely in connection with joint patrols in the Pacific.
