Candidate for UK prime minister promises increased Ukraine aid if elected
The British Foreign Minister Liz Truss has promised to increase military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine if she wins the race to succeed the country’s current Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
This is reported by Reuters.
She also intends to make her first call as prime minister to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Truss, who as foreign minister oversaw the imposition of sanctions against people close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said she would work with allies to provide Ukraine with more weapons and humanitarian aid.
"As prime minister, I will be Ukraine's best friend. I follow in the footsteps of Boris Johnson, and fully commit to ensuring that Putin fails in Ukraine and suffers a strategic defeat", she noted.
According to her, the war in Ukraine is far from over and now is not the time to think about concessions and compromises to the president of the Russian Federation.
Truss is currently leading the polls among members of the Conservative Party, which must decide who will become the next Prime Minister of Great Britain.
