British intelligence explains why Russian troops feel threatened in Mariupol
Ukrainian troops have launched at least 14 strikes on occupied Mariupol, located 80 kilometers from the front line
The British Ministry of Defense reported the information on Twitter.
British intelligence notes that since February 21, Russian troops have reported at least 14 explosions near temporarily occupied by Russia Mariupol.
The strikes targeted an ammunition depot at the airport, 2 fuel depots, and a metallurgical plant used by Russia as a military base.
At the same time, Mariupol is at least 80 kilometers from the front line.
"Russia will likely be concerned that unexplained explosions are occurring in a zone it had probably previously assessed as beyond the range of routine Ukrainian strike capabilities. Although widely devasted earlier in the war, Mariupol is important to Russia because it is the largest city Russia captured in 2022 that it still controls, and sits on a key logistics route," the British intelligence concluded.
