British intelligence assesses ability of Russian industry to meet Putin and Medvedev's demands for weapons
The Russian defense industry is not capable of producing the number of weapons needed to wage war against Ukraine
The British Ministry of Defense tweeted this in a daily summary.
British intelligence highlights that on February 9, Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev called for an increase in Russian tank production while visiting the Omsk Transport Machine Construction plant.
This follows several public comments by President Putin urging the defence industry to better support the “special military operation,” as the war against Ukraine is called in Russia.
In particular, during a televised meeting on January 12, the Russian president castigated Denis Manturov, the deputy prime minister with responsibility of the defense industry, for “fooling around”, making one of the strongest public outbursts since the invasion of Ukraine.
"Senior Russian leaders are likely aware that the state's military industrial output is becoming a critical weakness, exacerbated by strategic and operational miscalculation of invading Ukraine. Production is almost certainly falling short of the Russian MoD’s demands to resource the Ukraine campaign and restore its long-term defense requirements," the British intelligence concluded.

On February 9, Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia would produce and modify thousands of its own tanks in response to the supply of Western tanks to Ukraine.
