Britain hands over extended-range brimstone 2 missiles to Ukraine
Britain has sent Ukraine an improved model of a high-tech missile with a Brimstone laser homing system, the flight range of which is twice as long as the previous version.
This is reported by The Daily Telegraph publication.
Brimstone 2 missiles are usually launched from fighter jets, but Ukrainian troops use modified trucks as a launch platform.
Britain First handed over first-generation Brimstone missiles to Ukraine about six months ago. Still, a video released by the Royal Air Force shows a more advanced model preparing for transportation at its Oxfordshire base.
Each of which costs about 175 thousand pounds, the missiles are designed mainly to hit ground targets, including vehicles moving at high speed.
Brimstone, in particular, can independently select the best target from a pre-programmed list using high-frequency radar without touching civilian vehicles or less necessary enemy military equipment.
Given laser guidance and high accuracy, missiles can be launched in densely populated areas, which reduces the likelihood of civilian casualties.
