"Acting irrationally": British Defense Minister Wallace assesses the risk of Putin's use of nuclear weapons
British Defense Minister Ben Wallace called Russia's use of nuclear weapons highly unlikely, but urged that the possibility is not ruled out.
Evening Standard reports.
At the conservative party conference, Wallace noted that Putin's use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine is "very unlikely," but the Russian dictator is not acting rationally.
Wallace explained that while the use of nuclear weapons is part of Russian military doctrine, it would not be acceptable to Moscow's allies in India and China. He emphasized that during the meetings with Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping "made it very clear what is acceptable and what is unacceptable."
At the same time, Wallace added that the actions of the Russian leader, from the attack with a nerve agent in Salisbury, England, with which former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter were poisoned in 2018, to the invasion of Ukraine, were "completely irrational", so all risks cannot be dismissed worth
