Russia Freedom Legion reports losses in Belgorod and Kursk regions raid
The Russian army has lost at least 1,500 soldiers killed and wounded as a result of a volunteer raid in the Kursk and Belgorod regions of Russia
Oleksiy Baranovskyi, a representative of Russia Freedom Legion, said this during a press conference.
According to him, during the entire raid in the Kursk and Belgorod regions, the Russian army suffered:
- 651 fatalities;
- 980 injuries;
- 37 captured;
- 121 units of equipment destroyed;
- 50 units of damaged equipment.
Meanwhile, Baranovskyi declared that during the raid, volunteers succeeded in liberating two settlements from the "Putin regime."
What is known about the Russian volunteers raids
On the morning of Tuesday, March 12, members of the Freedom of Russia Legion, located along the Russian-Ukrainian border, declared their intent to free Russia from the rule of dictator Vladimir Putin. The soldiers from the Siberian Battalion have reported intense fighting in Russia, and Freedom of Russia first reported that it had taken control of the village of Tyotkino in the Kursk region, and later clarified that fighting for the village was ongoing.
Oleksiy Hetman, a reserve major of the National Guard of Ukraine and a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, believes that the raid by the Freedom of Russia Legion is a challenge to Putin and his entourage. In his opinion, if at least one battalion of the Russian Federation goes over to the side of the Russians fighting against Putin, a chain reaction could start throughout the army.
On March 13, Russian volunteers continued their raid on Russian territory, calling on residents of the Kursk and Belgorod regions to evacuate.
Later, Alexei Baranovsky said that in the Kursk region, fighting was already taking place outside the village of Tetkino.
Yevhen Dykyi, a former platoon commander of the Aidar battalion, believes that Russians may move combat-ready units from the Kupyansk direction to the Kursk region.
On the morning of March 14, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukraine of allegedly attacking two regions with 14 drones. Later, Belgorod reported a second attack.
On March 14, a volunteer of the Freedom of Russia Legion, Alexei Baranovsky, said that the Russian army had moved reserves to Belgorod and Kursk regions and was actively trying to displace Russian volunteer units. The Freedom of Russia Legion warned the locals about the beginning of active attacks.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of trying to disrupt 'elections' in Russia and promised retaliation.
On March 16, the Russian Volunteer Corps denied fake information about the alleged destruction of the group. The RDC also said they captured more than two dozen Russian soldiers.
Governor of the Belgorod Region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced that in the coming days, shopping centers, educational institutions, and kindergartens will be closed in Belgorod and the region.
The Freedom of Russia Legion, Russian Volunteer Corps and Siberian Battalion addressed Russian leader Vladimir Putin with a call to get in touch with them to discuss "the future of Russia without dictatorship and authoritarianism."
Authorities in the Graivoronsky urban district of Russian Belgorod region have called on local residents to evacuate due to shelling and fighting going on in recent days.
