No Partiot was destroyed, they work effectively — Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on June 18 that not a single Patriot air defense system was destroyed by the Russian invaders. They all operate and shoot down Russian missiles
He announced this in his evening address.
"No matter who in Russia says that our Patriots have been destroyed, they are still here, they are working, all of them are shooting down Russian missiles. As efficiently as possible. Not a single Patriot has been destroyed!" said Zelenskyy.
He also added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out more than a hundred group airstrikes against the positions and rear of the enemy.
"Almost three dozen missiles and about fifty attack drones were destroyed in seven days. And I would like to celebrate the defenders of the Kyiv region's sky, the 96th Kyiv air defense missile brigade of the Air Force... Thank you! All Kalibrs and Kinzhals were destroyed during these attacks, and thus the lives of our people were saved," he said.
Patriot system in Ukraine
Ukraine currently has two Patriot air defense systems, one provided by the USA and the other by Germany and the Netherlands.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed the need for 50 Patriot batteries to effectively protect Ukraine from Russian attacks.
On May 16, Russia launched a massive attack on Kyiv with missiles of various types and drones. The Patriot system shot down all 6 Kinzals that the occupiers sent to the Ukrainian capital.
British intelligence noted that the vulnerability of the Kinzals came as a surprise to Russia, as the occupiers positioned them as weapons that could not be hit by any air defense system.
According to the WSJ, Ukraine is likely to receive five more Patriot systems by the end of 2024.
