Putin believes his military's lies about Patriot SAMs destroyed in Ukraine - Ukrainian diplomat Chaly
Diplomat Valeriy Chaly believes that Putin's entourage continues to provide him with false information about the situation on the frontlines
He shared his opinions on Espreso TV.
"Recently, Putin's statements have changed a lot. They are no longer the same as they used to be, but there is an intention to demonstrate their ability to achieve remarkable goals. As for Putin's statements about the destruction of the Patriot, he is probably still trying to use lies and propaganda. Although he has been trying to avoid it lately. Or it is even worse, if he is being told so. That is, he believes in the lies of his military about the many destroyed Patriot SAMs in Ukraine. This is reminiscent of the story about the destruction of Leopard tanks, which the Russians claimed, but later it turned out that they destroyed conventional combine harvesters," explained Chaly.
The diplomat emphasized that Putin's entourage continues to provide him with false information about the situation on the frontlines.
"I assume that Putin is still being lied to by his own entourage in order to pump up his sore ego. This is all he needs to keep this war going. His other statements that they can strike any object are worthless. We have already experienced all this. We know that they can hit kindergartens, hospitals, schools, and civilian homes very well," he added.
Patriot in Ukraine
Ukraine currently has two Patriot air defence systems: one was provided by the United States and the other by Germany and the Netherlands.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine needs 50 Patriot batteries to effectively defend itself against Russian attacks.
On May 16, Russia launched a massive attack on Kyiv with missiles of various types and drones. The Patriot system shot down all 6 Kinzals that the occupiers sent to the Ukrainian capital.
British intelligence noted that the vulnerability of the Kinzals came as a surprise to Russia, as the occupiers positioned them as weapons that could not be hit by any air defense system.
According to the WSJ, Ukraine is likely to receive five more Patriot systems by the end of 2024.
