U.S. announces $988 million aid package for Ukraine
On Saturday, December 7, the United States announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine totaling $988 million, including HIMARS ammunition and unmanned aerial systems
The Pentagon press service reported the information.
“Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced a significant new security assistance package to ensure Ukraine has the tools it needs to prevail in its fight against Russian aggression,” the statement said.
The new aid package includes ammunition for HIMARS, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and equipment, components, and spare parts for the maintenance and repair of military hardware.
The funding is allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and marks the 22nd package provided by the Joe Biden administration.
According to Reuters, this latest aid package reduces the remaining $2.21 billion in the USAI by nearly half, as the Biden administration focuses on procuring weapons from manufacturers rather than drawing them from existing U.S. stockpiles.
- Earlier, reports emerged that the White House had devised a strategy to bolster Ukraine's military capabilities. This plan includes additional military assistance and the implementation of new sanctions against Russia.
