White House promises major military support for Ukraine
The White House has developed a strategy to strengthen Ukraine's military position. It includes military aid and new sanctions against Russia
The Guardian reported the information.
According to the outlet, on Thursday, December 5, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with the head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak. During the hour-long meeting, Sullivan promised that by mid-January 2025, the U.S. would provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles.
Additionally, the United States pledged to support Ukraine in addressing personnel issues by offering to train new soldiers at facilities outside Ukrainian territory.
This comes alongside an almost finalized agreement to allocate $20 billion in credit funds, which will be repaid using frozen Russian assets, the outlet noted.
The Guardian reports that the U.S. is linking this support to a series of new sanctions set to be imposed in the coming weeks to hinder Russia's ability to continue its military operations and strengthen Ukraine's position at the negotiating table, potentially laying the groundwork for a future settlement.
This latest move by the White House comes just over a month before Donald Trump's inauguration, when the U.S. may unveil an entirely new ceasefire strategy.
- The Ukrainian delegation recently met with key members of Donald Trump's team. The talks focused on Ukraine’s readiness for peace and its NATO membership proposal.
