President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine is ready to invite Russia to the second Peace Summit, but Russian leader Vladimir Putin is "not interested in peace"

He said this in an interview with Kyodo News.

“After the first summit, we agreed that we would hold relevant conferences on each of the points of the peace formula and prepare a detailed document by the end of November. We have held nine conferences with 50+ countries, the document is ready, it is detailed and well-developed,” Zelenskyy said.

According to him, Ukraine is looking forward to the united position of all countries, as well as the opinion of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump after his inauguration.

"We are not abandoning our position. As all the leaders wanted, Russia should be at the second summit. We will invite them, but I want to remind everyone of the countries that were uncertain about attending the first summit without Russia. I told them that they would see that Russia would do everything it could to cancel the formula, cancel the summit, and then cancel its chance to attend the second summit. It is not interested in ending the war; Putin is not interested in peace," the president emphasized.

Background on the second Peace Summit

Ukraine had sought to hold the second Global Peace Summit in November 2024 before the U.S. presidential election. However, it later became known that the second Peace Summit would not take place in November, “but everything for its preparation should be ready.”

In late July, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a peace plan would be ready by the end of November 2024, preceded by a series of negotiations with various countries on Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that if countries from the Global South invite Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the second peace summit, he might not want to attend.

Zelenskyy also believes that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi could help organize the second Peace Summit in India.

On October 30, presidential spokesman Serhiy Nykyforov said that Ukraine was preparing a three-point plan to be presented at the second Peace Summit.

On October 31, the President's Office announced that Ukraine will start formulating proposals for the second Peace Summit after a thematic conference in Canada on the fourth point of the Peace Formula, “Release of Prisoners and Deportees.”

The prerequisite for holding the Second Peace Summit is to build a shared foundation for a peace agreement that represents the stance of the global community.
