Zelenskyy: Putin won’t join peace summit because he doesn’t know what to do after war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that if countries from the Global South invite Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the second peace summit, he might not want to attend
He made these comments during an interview with Nordic media.
“If they (the Global South countries) want to invite Putin, that’s fine. But he doesn't want to come because he has no idea what to do after this war. We have our plan, but he has his own,” Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that Ukraine is open to Russia participating in the second peace summit, but there needs to be a peace plan in place. He also noted the importance of engaging the Global South countries in this effort.
Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine is willing to add points proposed by China, Brazil, and others to its plan, as long as those points align with the UN Charter and help stop the hostilities. He added that Kyiv will prepare a peace plan in November, and if there are suggestions from other countries, a joint plan could be developed.
- When the Russian economy overheats from Kremlin spending on new military recruits, Putin will be forced to change his war strategy against Ukraine, the U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported.
