Ukraine, Denmark to jointly produce long-range drones and missiles
Denmark will be the first country with which Ukraine will launch joint production of long-range drones and missiles outside of Ukraine
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a meeting in The Hague with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
According to the President's Office, the meeting focused on the development of defense co-production, Ukraine's priorities during Denmark’s presidency in the EU Council, as well as further support for Ukrainian soldiers and opportunities to increase aid in this direction.
Special attention was given to deepening defense cooperation and weapons production in Ukraine and Denmark, as well as discussing the development of the Danish model, which has proven its effectiveness. Specifically, this year, Denmark will allocate 1.26 billion euros for the production of long-range drones in Ukraine.
“Denmark will also be the first country with which we will launch joint production of long-range drones and missiles outside of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy added.
Regarding Ukraine's interests during Denmark's presidency in the EU Council, which will start on July 1, it was decided that the main focus will be on fast-track progress on the European integration path and the opening of all negotiation clusters. Ukraine is counting on Danish leadership, support, and good results.
"Thank you for your defense and political support. For sheltering our people. We are really counting on your presidency in the EU,” Zelenskyy stated.
Mette Frederiksen assured that Denmark will continue to support Ukraine and emphasized the importance of coordinating joint actions to achieve the maximum results during Denmark's presidency in the EU Council.
Ukraine agrees on joint weapons production in Denmark
Earlier, Ukraine announced an agreement on joint weapons production in Denmark, as reported by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov.
On June 24, in The Hague, Umerov signed a document with Danish Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen that paves the way for the joint production of Ukrainian weapons on Danish territory. The Ukrainian minister clarified that this concerns a so-called Letter of Intent.
This is the first step within the framework of the Build with Ukraine initiative, which the countries had previously agreed upon at a Ramstein format meeting. Denmark has already allocated 500 million kroner to launch this production on its territory.
"All the facilities created within the project will work on strengthening the Ukrainian Armed Forces," Umerov emphasized.
According to him, the project has strategic significance – it strengthens defense capabilities, provides a technology exchange, and fosters deeper integration of the defense sectors of both countries.
“This partnership works for the security of Ukraine, Denmark, and all of Europe – today and in the future,” the minister concluded.
