New challenge for Ukraine's air defense: military expert Zgurets on Russia's morning attack
Defense Express CEO Serhiy Zgurets has noted that Russia’s targets include both military facilities, such as airfields near the capital, and energy facilities across the country
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
“We expected this attack to happen. Experts had anticipated it. The Air Force Command knew that the Russians would likely attempt this attack after a long pause, given the accumulation of a significant number of cruise missiles. So far, the situation resembles previous complex and powerful attacks by the Russian Federation, where various means of attack are used. This includes Shahed drones, Tu-95 strategic bombers carrying Kh-22 missiles, and Tu-22M3 bombers with Kh-101 missiles,” commented Zgurets.
According to him, the Kh-22 missiles look the most dangerous, as their down-rate is not lower than that of other types of missiles.
“And, in fact, ballistics. Now we see the Russians’ desire to use their entire accumulated arsenal. This poses another challenge for the Ukrainian air defense system, which, of course, has been preparing for this. The attack is still ongoing. I would add that these Russian Tu-95 bombers that took off from Engels air base were nearly targeted by our drones, as on the night of August 26, our drones attacked enemy airfields. Targeting Russian airfields is a crucial part of deterring enemy attacks using strategic carriers. We hope our air defense system will perform as efficiently as possible,” the military expert said.
Zgurets added that Russia's targets remain partially military facilities, including airfields near the capital, and once again, energy facilities.
