
Norway to set up surface drone manufacturing in Ukraine
On June 23, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense has announced that the country will develop and produce unmanned surface drones in Ukraine
The Norwegian Ministry of Defense stated this on X.
Norway has allocated around NOK 6.7 billion (approximately EUR 580 million) to support the maritime coalition, which the country leads jointly with the United Kingdom.
“Parts of this funding will be used to develop and produce uncrewed maritime vessels using KDA technology, with production based in Ukraine,” said Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik.
Additionally, the Norwegian defense company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) has signed an agreement with a Ukrainian partner for the joint development and production of surface drones in Ukraine, utilizing Norwegian technology and expertise.
"Uncrewed vessels play a critical role in helping Ukraine defend its territory and neutralize the Russian navy in the Black Sea," the Norwegian Ministry of Defense emphasized.
- In early June, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with his Norwegian counterpart, Tore Onshus Sandvik, in Brussels, after which he announced that Oslo would allocate $7 billion to help Ukraine in 2025.
- On June 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Onshus Sandvik. This was Sandvik’s first visit to Ukraine since he took office in February.
