Zelenskyy’s high-security trip to Washington details
The Biden administration consulted closely with Zelenskyy on the "security parameters" for him to leave Ukraine. However, there were no certain "mathematical formulas" for choosing the date of Zelenskyy's visit to Washington
The Guardian reported the information.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy's first foreign trip since February 24 began with a secret train to Poland on Tuesday, December 20.
The next morning, the president was spotted in Przemysl at the railway station with US Ambassador to Ukraine Brigitte Brink, who accompanied him. The Guardian journalists reported the information citing the footage of the private broadcaster TVN.
Zelenskyy's visit was planned for several days and was organized secretly due to concerns about his safety.
In Poland, Zelenskyy boarded a US government plane that landed Dec. 21 at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, near Washington.
A senior Biden administration official told the Guardian reporters that "there was no “mathematical formula” for the right day for Zelenskyy to make this trip." But he added, "it would be an important injection of momentum and sustenance to US and allied support as winter sets in."
“The administration consulted closely with Zelenskyy on the “security parameters” of him being able to leave Ukraine and visit the US briefly and return,” said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
