Trump says he has his own deadline for Russia-Ukraine peace deal
U.S. President Donald Trump, on Thursday, April 24, once again stated that Ukraine and Russia must sit down at the negotiating table, and that he has his own deadline for reaching a peace agreement
Trump made this statement during a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, which was broadcast by RSBN.
The U.S. president was asked whether he believes that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin wants peace, considering the combined Russian attack on Kyiv on April 24.
“We think that both of them want peace, but they need to sit down at the negotiating table. We have been waiting for a long time and we need to get them to the table. And I think we will achieve peace, we want to save 5,000 young people. (...) We have 5,000 people dying every week in this senseless war. I don’t like how much money we are paying and I realize how many people are dying. And that is the most important element right now. We can save thousands of people,” Trump responded.
He said he is dissatisfied that the negotiation process is taking so long, noting that “there is a lot of hatred, a lot of hostility, a lot of evil there.”
“I have my own deadline, and we want this to happen quickly. The Prime Minister of Norway is helping us. And I think NATO also wants this to happen. So we have a deadline, and after that, our attitude will be completely different,” the U.S. president added.
Trump was also asked whether he is considering new sanctions against Russia due to the strikes on Ukraine, but he ignored this question.
In addition, Clash Report writes that the U.S. leader stated that Putin would listen to him and stop attacking Ukraine.
- Earlier, Trump reacted to the Russian strikes on Kyiv on April 24, saying that they were ill-timed and that he was dissatisfied with them.
