
Trump “disappointed” by Russian strikes, calls for restraint from “both sides”
U.S. President Donald Trump is "disappointed" by Russian strikes on civilian targets and major cities in Ukraine
U.S. Ambassador Matthew Whitaker told reporters ahead of the NATO summit in The Hague, according to a European Pravda journalist.
When asked whether Trump believes that Russia is seeking peace, given the recent actions of the Russian army, he made a statement condemning the Russian strikes.
He said that he wanted to join the many voices around the world in condemning the strikes on civilians in Ukraine and expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, including an American citizen who had been killed during one of the recent attacks.
Ambassador Whitaker also noted that President Trump was disappointed by such strikes occurring in the middle of negotiations. However, speaking on behalf of the president, he also expressed expectations from both sides. The diplomat urged both sides to exercise restraint, without clarifying what those expectations entailed.
- On the evening of June 22, the Russian occupying army launched drones and missiles against Ukraine, causing deaths and injuries in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will attend a working dinner of NATO member state leaders on June 24. Reportedly, Donald Trump is also expected to be present.
