Rubio hopes to "reset" talks with Zelenskyy

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump's administration is ready to resume cooperation with Ukrainian officials "when they are ready for peace"

He said this in an interview with ABC News.

According to Rubio, he has not spoken with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy or Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha after the Ukrainian delegation left Washington following talks with Trump.

The U.S. Secretary of State noted that the U.S. is trying to force Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, and Trump is the only person with a chance to achieve this, but Zelenskyy undermined these efforts.

"Everyone knows the history here, the back and forth. We understand that. We all understand that. But the question now is, can we get them to a table to negotiate? That's our goal. Don't do anything to disrupt that," Rubio said.

However, the secretary claimed that Zelenskyy "couldn't contain himself" and disrupted the peace talks by attempting to "Ukraine-splain" every issue during the meeting.

At the same time, he expressed hope that cooperation with the Ukrainian side could still be "reset."

"I hope he comes to the realization that we're actually trying to help his country here before it suffers thousands of more casualties," the U.S. Secretary of State said.

He also acknowledged that achieving a diplomatic resolution to the conflict is not certain.

"We are trying to end a war. You cannot end a war unless both sides come to the table, starting with the Russians," Rubio said. "I'm not promising you it's possible. I'm not telling you it's 90% likely. I'm saying it's 0% likely if we don't get them to a negotiating table," he stated.

Oval Office dispute

On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington for a working visit. During the press conference, a dispute arose between Trump, Zelenskyy, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

It was later revealed that the joint press conference of Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump was canceled following the argument.

After the quarrel at the White House, European leaders and U.S. politicians began expressing support for Zelenskyy and Ukraine.

Press Secretary of U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration, Karoline Leavitt, announced the intention of the American authorities to stop providing military aid to Ukraine.

Although it was Trump who effectively canceled the meeting with Zelenskyy in Washington on February 28, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is now demanding an apology from the Ukrainian president. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Polish President Andrzej Duda have called on Volodymyr Zelenskyy to restore his relations with Trump.

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that the Ukrainian president "must come to his senses and return to the negotiating table with gratitude, or someone else should lead the country."
