Rubio said this in an interview with CNN.

“When you start talking about that aggressively – and the president is a deal maker, he made deals his entire life – you’re not going to get people to the table. And so you start to perceive that maybe Zelenskyy doesn’t want a peace deal. He says he does, but maybe he doesn’t,” he said.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should apologize for the conversation with Trump and J.D. Vance turning into a dispute.

“That active, open undermining of efforts to bring about peace is deeply frustrating for everyone who’s been involved in communications with them leading up to today, and I think he should apologize for wasting our time for a meeting that was going to end the way it did,” the secretary said.

Rubio noted that Trump's position on Putin remains "trust but verify" and added that it is too early to say whether Trump, Putin, and Zelenskyy will meet for peace talks: "There is still a lot of work ahead before we get to that point. This is a complex war with deep-rooted causes spanning many years, and there is much to be resolved. A lot has been invested by both sides."

  • On February 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington for a working visit. During a press conference, a dispute erupts between Trump, Zelenskyy, and U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
  • Later, it was announced that the joint press conference of Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump was canceled after a dispute.
  • After the spat in the White House, European leaders and U.S. politicians began to express support for Zelenskyy and Ukraine.
  • Zelenskyy later gave an interview to an American TV channel, during which he commented on the situation with Trump, among other things.
