Global media highlight Trump-Zelenskyy clash on front pages

The shocking scenes in the Oval Office dominated the front pages on Saturday, with the papers united in their dismay. Adjectives including disastrous and vile were used to describe the meeting in which Donald Trump and his vice-president JD Vance openly berated the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, The Guardian reports. 

The Guardian leads with a quote from Donald Trump: “You are gambling with world war three”, characterizing the meeting between the US and Ukrainian presidents as “disastrous”.

Australia's leading news site published an article titled: "Trump's brutal low blow before row", saying how Donald Trump mocked Ukrainian leader’s outfit before he even stepped inside.

The Daily Mail called the meeting “A spectacle to horrify the world” and said that during the “shouting match in the Oval Office” a “raging Trump humiliates Zelenskyy on live TV”.

The Financial Times headlined with “Zelenskyy’s White House talks break down in blaze of acrimony”, saying the minerals deal proposed by Trump had been left unsigned.

The Sun said “Ukraine hero ambushed” above the headline “The Fight House”, alongside a picture of Trump wagging his finger at Zelenskyy.

The Independent also said “Zelenskyy ambushed by Trump”, describing the meeting as a “disastrously bad-tempered summit”.

Earlier, after unsuccessful negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation in Washington, the White House's social media account X published a post with the words America First and an image of the American flag.

In response to the post, the Democratic Party offered the Trump administration its own version of the post — “Putin First.”

“Fixed that for you,” the post on X reads.
