Rutte said this on March 1 in an interview with BBC, The Guardian reports.

“I have been twice on the phone now with President Zelensky. I told him this, we need to stick together, the United States, Ukraine and Europe to bring Ukraine to a durable peace,” said Rutte.

When asked what Zelenskyy said about the meeting with Trump, NATO Secretary General said he could not disclose, “but what I clearly told him is that we really have to respect what President Trump has done so far for Ukraine”.

“So I told him, we really have to give Trump credit for what he did then, what America did since then, and also what America is still doing,” Rutte added.

  • On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington for a working visit. During the press conference, a dispute arose between Trump, Zelenskyy, and U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance.
  • It was later revealed that the joint press conference of Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump was canceled following the argument.
  • After the quarrel at the White House, European leaders and U.S. politicians began expressing support for Zelenskyy and Ukraine.
  • Press Secretary of U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration, Karoline Leavitt, announced the intention of the American authorities to stop providing military aid to Ukraine.
